Bring the past into the present with retro designs

As we are now into possibly the most important month in the fashion calendar, the world seems to be looking ahead to the trends that are emerging, yet the trends seem to be inspired by the past!

This month New York, Milan, Paris and London all have their fashion weeks, a time for designers to showcase their new creations and predict the trends for the coming year. In New York, Rodarte showed their new designs inspired by vintage trends, as covered by interiors, architecture and all things cool magazine, Wallpaper.

As we spin round the globe to follow the seasonal fashion weeks, the awards season is well underway. Already particular trends are emerging through designers and celebrities alike.

As the film ‘The Artist’ cleaned up at the BAFTA’s, gaining 7 awards, it’s clear that vintage is having a revival.

There have been a number of fashion features, including in the March issue of Marie Claire, which have focused on the 50’s and 60’s as inspiration for the season

At Lefton’s we have some beautiful new designs, influenced by retro styles but with a contemporary twist.

The Vista cabinet and sideboard combines beautiful walnut coloured wood with stunning curved features indicative of 50’s and 60’s designs. Reminisce about eras gone by while creating your own beautiful, modern look.

To complement the retro style of the furniture and follow another spring 2012 trend, try some bright pastel shades to contrast with the wood and make it really stand out. Mixing prints is also a fantastic way to achieve a quirky look, as recommended by homes and gardens Magazines including  House 2 Home.

As the award season is underway, have our own award-winners at Lefton’s, global brands such as Granfort, Karel Mintjens and new in, a revolutionary range of seating from German designers Aeris.

Using ultra modern pieces like the Swopper and Muvman stools, alongside those inspired by previous decades, can create a really individual, quirky and contemporary look.
